Need a little help here. I'm in a league that is supposed to have a 6 team playoff (1 and 2 seeds get byes). Well, unfortunately we have one playoff-bound guy that thinks he can pay his league dues with his winnings (assuming he gets any). The rule on that changed in this league...if you don't pay by playoff time, you're not in the playoffs.

Ideally we could just take the next team and put him in the playoffs, but that would be the league commissioner, and he doesn't want to make it seem like he changed a rule just to get himself in the playoffs.

The obvious problem is that we now have a 5 team playoff, and no idea how to run it over a max 3 weeks. The only idea I could think of is to give the top 3 seeds a bye, have 4 and 5 play each other this week, and then run it as a 4 team playoff on out. Anyone else have a decent idea of how to run that sort of thing?

P.S. The option of having a 6th playoff team is not available. We're not letting this jerkoff in, and we're not letting anyone else in, so our only choice for the amount of teams is 5.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

How about doing the 6 team playoff with the guy who didn't pay in them.

But then give him a forfeit for the first round.

Essentially, that would be the same thing as this...

...which is fine with me, and I think that's how it's gonna happen.

Oh, and he's actually the 2 seed, so he would have a 1st round bye if he had paid. So his forfeit would be in the 2nd round, and that wouldn't really be fair to the 1 seed (me).

I can't believe that you allowed him to not pay in the first place. We had that happen in our league a few years ago. He did the auction and everything, but by week 3 he still hadn't paid so we voted him out. It ended up as a 13-team league that year with each team getting a "bye" week.

I would just do the 5-teamer, also.

Sounds like the simplest way to me.

If you wanted to make week 15 interesting for the other teams, you could do something like 1v2v3, where the bye team that scores the most points automatically gets to play the winner of the play-in game, while the other two face off against each other in week 16.

Or what's his team look like? Maybe I'll invest - take his place and it can return to a 6 team playoff.
