yeah, Auction leagues are WAY better than traditional serpentine drafts. You have more of a feeling of really being the GM because you have to rely on outbidding others, and not just "luck" into a guy via the serpentine draft system.

I'll never do a standard serpentine draft again. Haven't for 7 years now. Auctions rule!

Year Two: Calling last year's owner back!

Time to log back onto the forums: Contract Fantasy Football

I did a bit of a redesign of the forums. (I'm sure FTJ will like the colors!) The team finances sheet has been updated and includes a box under your current roster of players you'll have the right to match offers in free agency. I have to go through yet and make sure all the retirees are removed and players who changed teams in the offseason are changed on the sheet.

Please check in to this thread: Contract Fantasy Football • View topic - CFF Year Two!

I also have one rule change proposal in a thread in the League Rules forum. I'm going through the rulebook and just making very minor clarification changes, except for the in-season free agency section. It needs to be looked at, and once I come out with the official rulebook for year two I'll post the tweaks. Don't wait to attack things you didn't like about the rules in year one, I want to hear it.

Also, anyone who didn't participate in the league last year but might be interested in joining, let me know. I need to give all the other owners a chance to reclaim their teams, of course, but we'll probably need at least two new owners. Once I have a good idea of what we'll need, I'll start recruiting more heavily.

We have nine owners returning that I know of so far. So there are three spots to fill, unless tomd12 or wischris2001 check in, or one n' done changes his mind.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Last call, we've starting bidding with two/three open teams. Here are the two available teams:

 -------- TEAM ONE -------- Player 2009 2010 2011 2012 Total -------------------------------------------------- QB D McNabb, PHI 12 12 QB J Delhomme, CAR 4 4 RB M Lynch, BUF 18 18 18 54 RB M Barber, DAL 22 22 44 WR S Smith, CAR 18 18 WR S Moss, WAS 5 5 TE T Heap, BAL 6 6 TE R McMichael, STL 2 2 K N Rackers, ARI 2 2 DF Ravens 1 2 3 -------------------------------------------------- CURRENT 90 42 18 150 MAX 100 100 100 250 RIGHTS TO RETAIN (Right to match any other teams free agent offer) ---------------- QB J Flacco, BAL QB B Griese, TB RB F Jones, DAL RB K Jones, CHI WR R Williams, JAC WR I Bruce, SF TE M Lewis, JAC K D Akers, PHI DE Bengals -------- TEAM TWO -------- Player 2009 2010 2011 2012 Total -------------------------------------------------- QB T Romo, DAL 15 15 30 RB R Grant, GB 15 15 30 RB W McGahee, BAL 11 10 21 WR A Boldin, ARI 14 14 28 WR B Edwards, CLE 10 10 10 30 -------------------------------------------------- CURRENT 65 64 10 139 MAX 100 100 100 250 RIGHTS TO RETAIN (Right to match any other teams free agent offer) ---------------- QB P Rivers, SD RB R Mendenhall, PIT RB A Green, HOU RB J Charles, KC WR N Burleson, SEA TE B Watson, NE TE L Smith, PHI K S Gostkowski, NE K M Stover, BAL DE Vikings DE Jets

First come, first serve.

There's a third team that's probably open ("Amish Mafia" if you head into the league finances page and want to look up their roster), but their cap situation looks ugly at the moment because they released some players with gauranteed contracts (all contracts are). We have a salary relief process - once the players he released are signed elsewhere, the cap hit is reduced by the amount of his new contract - but it still doesn't look good and the new owner would have to wait until those guys sign elsewhere to free up the cap room (or sign those players back himself).

Cap penalty example:
1) WR Roy Williams, DAL - Signed for $20 over 2 years, 10/10
2) Released, contract stays on books as a cap penalty
3) Roy Williams signs with a different team for $16 over 2 years, 8/8
4) Original team's cap penalty drops from 10/10 to 2/2

And just to quickly explain the salary caps, we do a yearly one and a total committed, to keep teams fairly balanced and protect them from drilling their own teams into the ground. Committing your full $100 yearly caps out four seasons right away would give you an awesome club this season, but likely a terrible one in years 3 and 4. So we prevent teams from doing that by capping total committed at $250 instead of $400. Works out pretty good.

Were doing an entry fee of $50 this year, but some of that is refunded on top of your winnings if you don't spend all your cap money. ($1 in game = 50cents real life).

Oh, I should mention that as a first year owner you have the option to not pay your first season. You don't earn any winnings, but you don't have to pay for a half a team you didn't assemble.

Year III has been launched! - League Homepage

Previous owners should have gotten an email from me. Let me know if you didn't.

And we are looking for at least one or two new owners. If anyone is interested in joining, just let me know in this thread. Here's the very brief details on the league:
  • Teams have a salary cap, and players are signed to contracts between one and four years in length.
  • Free agents are signed through a slow, silent auction that takes place over about three weeks on our league forums.
  • Rookies enter the league through a two round rookie draft at the end of the free agent process.
  • Flexible starting rosters, with one of each of the following: QB, RB, RB/WR, WR, WR/TE, TE, K, DEF
  • Basic yardage scoring with 1 pt per 25 yards passing and 10 yards rushing/receiving. 4 pts per passing TD, 6 pts per rushing/receiving TD.
  • Each team pays 50% of their team's payroll into the prize pool. With the yearly salary cap at $100, that means the most you will pay is $50, but you can pay less by fielding a cheap team.
    • But first year owner you have the option to not pay your first season. You don't earn any winnings, but you don't have to pay for a half a team you didn't assemble.

Just ask away if you have more question or want more details.

We could be full, but a few guys from last year haven't checked in yet, so if you're interested still let me know. The league also would consider expansion to 14 teams if there are indeed more people looking to join.

If there is anymore room, I would be interested as well.  Just found out I can't make my live draft league, so as of now I am fantasy deprived for this year.
