We can only hope the Packers perform better than that embarrassment which was our game in San Francisco last week.

It has been reported the starters may play as much as 3 quarters.

For those in the Milwaukee area, this game should be on the CW (and CW-HD) due to the Olympics. Preseason on local HD is awesome.

While I hope that first drive is the start of good things for the Packers offense, I fear it's more telling about the Denver defense.

...and Woodson got dinged up; hope it's not serious.

Well hopefully he will be consistent in playing well. We now know he is capable, which makes games like the SF game so much more frustrating.

I missed most of the first half, so I'm basically looking at that final drive and his stats, which look great.

Picture last week, except the exact opposite.

Here are my random thoughts/observations:

  • As mentioned, excellent showing for Aaron Rodgers. He was much more decisive this week with the football, but it also helped that the WRs only had one drop.
  • Good to see McCarthy dust off the QB sneak a few times. That was really Favre's achilles heel, after it being ignored so much by Holmgren/Sherman for unknown reasons. Adding that to their playcalling arsenal will hopefully relieve their 3rd-and-short woes that plagued the team last year. Hopefully Rodgers can withstand the pounding.
  • The first team defense still looks a little shaky, but I have faith in its ability to jell by the time September 8th comes around. They still haven't played at full strength. Pickett/Jolly at DT can do wonders for their run defense.
  • With the potential Desmond Bishop/Abdul Hodge/Tracey White decision for last 2 spots at LB looming, I'm almost willing to sacrifice the loser of Poppinga/Chillar (which looks to be Chillar) to keep all 3. I'm guessing the team keeps 7 LBs this year, as Hodge is almost too good not to make the team and White and Bishop also are key contributors on Special Teams. Bishop is probably Hodge's equal on the field, too.
  • Did anyone else get taken aback by seeing Patrick Ramsey and Michael Pittman on the Broncos second team? I'm getting so de-sensitized to the TT youth movement, it almost seemed like 'cheating' to have veteran back-ups.

Rodgers may already have the single greatest moustache in Packers history. I love that guy.

A couple of additional thoughts from what Godspeed listed:

Nice to see a great catch and move by Finley tonight. Definitely shows some potential, though he's very raw and is a terrible blocker, which were both knocks known on draft day.

That said, that was about all the good that can be said about many of the rookies so far this preseason. Nelson seems to get lost in the crowd when on the field, and hasn't shown (or had the chance to show) anything yet. Brohm does look more confident and competent out there with each passing week, but the run-heavy 2nd half didn't really allow him to do much. Pat Lee made a poor choice tonight on the TD pass to Pittman, though with Bush on the verge of being cut and Williams stinking tonight, Lee probably still has as good a chance as any at the nickle job.

Otherwise, nice win. O-line looked decent. I don't think either Woodson or Sitton returned after their injuries, so hopefully it's not anything big.

Greg Bedard says that Woodson did return after one play.

He got beat on a 3rd down pass to Brandon Marshall, so...yes.

I was back in time to see Tramon Willliams get burnt by Marshall. I kinda thought the pass interference call was bull. Marshall initiated the contact and Williams has a play on it too. I've always liked Williams, anybody but Bush please for the nickel spot. They said its between Williams, Blackmon, and Bush. I wonder why Lee isn't being considered. He has looked good as well.
