Sorry, couldn't wait.  Can't believe it's already time for preseason football.  What's everyone hoping to see in this game?

I'm really interested to see the Browns QB situation, so it might be worth it to watch this one from beginning to end. There likely won't be a lot of creativity on defense, so I'm not terribly excited to watch them yet. For later in the game, I'm looking forward to seeing Quinn Porter play (not to be confused with Quinn Johnson the FB). He's a unique back that doesn't fit the mold of backs that we usually have, and could offer a nice change-of-pace option for Grant if he shows something.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

I'll be at the game, oddly enough (never thought I could be convinced to go to an exhibition...).  I'm a bit disappointed it's not the 2nd pre-season home game so at least I'd see the starters for more than just a series, but I'll do just about anything to get out of this family commitment.  I'll be a keeping a close eye on back end of the d-line rotation and the 2nd string CBs (probably not simultaneously).  Also looking forward to seeing how Bulaga does at LT.

Looks like NFL Network will be replaying it Monday at 3. Looks like that's when I'll actually get to see the game. Oh well....

3) Pat Lee/Underwood
4) Flynn
5) Jones/Nelson

I would say those are the main guys I will have an eye on as well. Also Chillar to see what he can do as far as pass rushing from the OLB spot.

I wouldn't exactly call that opening defensive series encouraging, even by pre-season vanilla defense standards.

Yeah, getting burned by the coverage underneath is an unfortunate reoccuring theme from the playoff game.

I can't tell if Grant is sick here or if he doesn't know where he is?

Same for Rich Gannon- "Rodgers does a nice job getting the ball out to Ed West.  Er, Ed Reed."
Um, do you mean Donald Lee, who actually caught that ball?

Bedard thinks Grant is hurt and looking woozy. Uh oh.

Edit: At least the passing game looks great. Probably should against a Cleveland secondary that's mostly rookies, but still fun to watch.  With one quarter done, it's probably time to pull Rodgers & Co.

That is why Sam Shields transitioned from WR, lol. Nice jump on the ball, though.

- I don't know which of Kuhn or Hall will go, or if we'll keep three fullbacks again, but I don't see any way that Quinn Johnson is kept off this team. He absolutely blew someone up every single time he was on the field.
- Frank Zombo is intriguing, and I think I'll be watching him more closely in the rest of the preseason.
- Derrick Martin looked really good, and that interception was incredibly athletic.
- Sam Shields is much less of a lock than we thought over the past few days. Very few positives, lots of negatives tonight.
- Rodgers didn't miss a beat, Flynn looked pretty good (perfect throw to Nelson in the end zone), Graham Harrell has a ways to go.

I started saying last pre-season that I would pay for a ticket just to see Quinn Johnson hit guys....and I got to do that again last night.  While I don't discount the decline in talent between the first half and the second half, the running game once again started to take off when Johnson started moving guys out of the POA.  All the focus on what Johnson can't do loses sight of the one thing he does better than the other two FBs on the roster: make a hole for the ball carrier.  That's the most important task for the position.  Not to mention, some of the special teams talk seems overblown, since his huge hit on the punt cover team was wiped out when one of his competitors (Hall?) left early.

Rodgers was outstanding.  Jennings and Finley were open on just about every opportunity.  That said, I'd take any of the Browns 3 QBs before Flynn, who didn't show much ability to throw the ball beyond 20 yards.  (To Flynn's benefit, his INT at the end of the half was rushed, since Colledge lost his man on the designed rollout.  It evens out the pick that Haden had in his hands on an under-thrown ball.)

Not sure if Hawk was supposed to have safety help on the TD, but if not...he got beat badly.
Looking at the players who were neither starters nor rookies, I don't think any of them had a better game than Brandon Underwood.

Bulaga looked comfortable at both LG and LT.
Only saw one error out of Burnett, who missed a tackle on a screen pass that went for a big gain (2nd quarter?).  Without knowing what the play-call was, it's tough to evaluate someone playing in space.
Mike Neal didn't show much in terms of pass rushing ability, but at least he made 1 more tackle than Harrell did.
Sam Shields...the less said, the better.  If you want to be a kick returner, you first have to learn to be a kick catcher.

When it's ones-on-ones, and the other team spreads you out on 4th and short to throw the ball instead of punting, I'm afraid that the secret may be out on how to beat this defense.

I have to disagree on this one. At the very least, the throw to Nelson in the end zone was near perfect placement. Nelson just dropped it, then got lucky with a phantom PI call. I was not at all impressed with Colt McCoy, though he's just a rookie. Either way, if I had to pick between Flynn and McCoy to start week 1, based on last night, I would take Flynn.

I was a bit perplexed by some of the decisions the coaching staff made. If you're going to take steps to eliminate practice reps from Brady Poppinga and feed them to the better contributor in Brandon Chillar, why not do the same on gameday? Sam Shields is allegedly such an asset as a gunner on punt coverage, but I don't believe he saw any time there against Cleveland.

As for the rest of the game, what did we really learn? The first team offense can still score at will. The defense still struggles without a pass rush. Matt Flynn still has the arm-strength of a high schooler. I guess we did see the o-line hold up to some pretty heavy blitzing. And we did find out that Morgan Burnett might have an issue with shying away from contact.

Hopefully this was the last preseason game I'll ever go to, at least until my son's a bit older. It's just not worth the 2 hour drive just to be surrounded by a bunch of fools booing because Cleveland scored in an exhibition against what looked to be a pretty vanilla defense missing its best pass rusher. Who cares?

Not that it means much at this point, but if Johnson is in your plans this year, why are Hall & Kuhn still the only 2 FBs on the KO return team? I'm not sure if they rotated, but the few times I checked, I didn't see #45 in that formation.

Oh God no, it'll be 2, if only for the TEs. I think Korey Hall makes it in spite of McCarthy's infatuation with Kuhn at the goal line. If Johnson makes it, it'll be over Kuhn.

Rodgers was outstanding. Jennings and Finley were open on just about every opportunity.

Yes. My one minor qualm was Rodgers missing a wide open Jennings to his left to fire it into a pretty well covered James Jones on his right on the second drive. Can't really complain either because the pass was complete and it could've been a progression thing anyways.

To lessen the chance that Johnson gets hurt in a meaningless preseason game on special teams, a la Flanagan.

I should clarify: under no circumstances do I think the team should keep 3 fullbacks. I'm just saying that there should be no way Quinn Johnson gets let go. I like Kuhn a bit more than Hall, but for the most part, they're the same player, so one has to go.
