Am I missing something here?

How in the world is Bucky projected to get a BCS bowl game when they won't even make the B10 Championship game at this rate? 2 losses and even if OSU got the National Championship game, wouldn't the loser then get the Rose Bowl. I was thinking best case scenario, even winning out, would be a Capital One berth.

Can somebody explain what I'm missing?

Well, its a projected at-large bid, something that the second-best B1G team should usually be in the running for.

And the second best B1G team isn't necessarily one of the teams in the B1G championship game.

If we win out (Iowa, BYU, Indiana, Minnesota, Penn St.), we would be 10-2 and 7-1 in the conference, with a loss to Ohio State and a half-loss to Arizona State. We could probably climb to the 7-11 range in the rankings if that happens.

But even then, I agree that earning the at-large bid isn't super likely, especially considering our best win will be against Northwestern. Possible, but I just have to assume someone will have a better resume.

Bowls are all about making money. If two teams are somewhat similar as far as records go the Bowl will select the team that it feels will draw more fans and a larger TV audience. The Orange Bowl a few years ago selected 9-2 Michigan over 9-2 Michigan St even though Michigan St beat Michigan in the regular season because Michigan is a better draw. It's kind of a joke but just about everything about college football's postseason is kind of a joke.

Loser of the B10 title game is not guaranteed a BCS birth, or the Rose Bowl if OSU goes to the National Championship. The Rose Bowl can then pick whomever they want (see TCU a few years ago for an example) to play, ordered by the BCS game selection order.... and Wisconsin is probably a "more likely" choice than Michigan State for any bowl game.

It's very possible, almost probable, if UW wins out. Typically the later in the season you lose the worse you are in the polls, so if Ohio State beats MSU in the B1G Championship game it's UW and MSU each with one loss but UW likely will be higher in the polls. (I'm assuming Nebraska loses one of this week @ Michigan or next week vs. MSU, but even then I think they take UW over Nebraska, with Nebraska losing to Minnesota and no bowl wants Nebraska to repeat their B1G Championship game performance from last year.)

If Michigan beats Nebraska this week, and Nebraska beats MSU next week, UW is almost a shoe-in.

Suddenly its possible that UWs only losses on the season would be to 2 conference champs. Meanwhile the SEC teams pile-up losses left and right while still hanging in the top 25.

Badgers up to #14 in the AP poll- should be close to the #14 needed to make the BCS at-large with two weekends left to play.

The final play in that game was pathetic. A toss up to one guy with quadruple coverage is just bad. If this team had a Qb, it could have been really good.

NFL Blitz has better referees.

meh, Capital One or Outback Bowl was pretty much what I expected going into the season back in August so I'm satisfied.

I was screaming from Section H row 54 to watch for the draw play...

Hackenberg and Breneman showing why they were the #1 QB and #1 TE recruits in the nation a year ago... and why Stave was a walk-on. If Stave doesn't overthrow Abbrederis on the Penn State 10 yard line this is an entirely different game. But it isn't Stave's fault; why UW only called one jet sweep (for a gain of 13 yards) is beyond me. No wonder they had no room to run up the middle - Penn State wasn't playing the jet sweep because UW has only faked it the last three games (except once to Abbrederis).

Nice matchup for UW vs. South Carolina in the Cap One. Glad to have a different opponent if nothing else since we're going back to Florida for the 7th time in 10 years or whatever it is.
