Ok, so Pitt's coach just quit in one of the most cowardly ways imaginable and appears to be an enormous hypocrite and total scumbag. He ran off to Arizona State even after Pitt denied him permission to interview and left without even talking to any of his players, he sent them a text message to let them know he quit, and even made sure in the text message to deflect blame for his leaving onto his "family". He had been there for one season.

But, this kind of thing happens all the time in college football. Fans of a given school are always upset when they find out what kind of hypocritical con artists are running their program but then they turn right around and try to poach somebody else's coach. If the fans were actually upset about the situation, rather than just the fact that it happened to their precious school, shouldn't they insist that the school hire a coordinator or somebody who is unemployed? In the article on the Pitt coach leaving, the paper names 6 candidates, 3 of whom are currently head coaches (to be fair, one is Penn State's coach, who should be dumped immediately after the season is over and would thus be available). So, Pitt's response to being devastated by Arizona State's poaching of their coach is to possibly turn around and inflict the same thing on another school?

That seems like a bit of an overreaction JH.

Perhaps he was using his family as an excuse, but I've also seen just in normal everyday work where a difficult family situation forces a career decision. I would hope if he was denied permission to speak to another team - and had a legit reason why - he would have spoke with the team to tell them why it was needed.

As for communicating with the team, was the team still practicing? If Pitt is not going to a bowl game, perhaps the email was the only way he could communicate with them at all. If his choice was to not tell them or email them, emailing was the better choice.

He might not have handled this well, but to read a newspaper article and label him a hypocrite or scumbag seems a little harsh. Imagine if everything we did was reported in the newspapers. I doubt we would always look great...

As for "stealing" other coaches, I guess it depends on how NCAA coaches' contracts are worked out. If they are guaranteed contracts, the coach should be bound to the school. But if a coach can be fired and not paid, then I don't see any reason why that same coach can't go off and find a different coaching position.

Well, I commend Pitt for calling up an assistant rather than poaching another team's coach. Hopefully Chryst will work out for them.
