ESPN reporting Tim Brewster to be fired at the end of the season in Minnesota.  I thought it was a goofy hire at the time, and he's managed to take the mediocre program Glenn Mason had there and run it into the ground.  Not a huge shocker.

Bill Lynch of Indiana joins Brewster on the unemployment line.

Randy Shannon of Miami joins them as well. Not the Big 10, but a high profile school.

So he's currently fired? I realize that many awful teams get bowl bids, but there's no way Minnesota gets into a bowl, do they?

And after I look at when Peavey posted that, it now makes sense to me. Sorry about that!

John Gruden is rumored to be leaving the MNF booth to coach at Miami.  Interesting move, as I don't recall ever seeing a Superbowl-winning coach going to the college ranks to revive a program.

Whatever it takes to get him out of the MNF booth.

There are going to be too many NFL openings for me to believe Gruden would take half the money to go to a college job.

My thoughts exactly.  But ESPN probably wouldn't have the good sense to just keep it at Tirico & Jaws.

This guy right here, this guy would be a great choice to revive a storied college program like Miami! He's a FOOTBALL COACH! He's a MOTIVATOR! This guy, he'll GET IN YOUR FACE!

Not to mention it's arguably twice the work.  Peter King shot down this report on Monday, but it looks like the deal is close to being finalized.  Interesting to find out that it was Gruden himself who initiated contact a few weeks ago.

If you're THIS COACH who wants to get back into the game but doesn't want to take too much time rebuilding -- in the pros or in college -- THIS PROGRAM is an attractive option. Randy Shannon's weakness wasn't recruiting; it was getting proper results out of the talent he had. The facilities stink, but it's a school that wants to make a big splash, has the cash to spend, and they have so much in-state talent that I actually think it's more attractive than taking over a team like the Carolina Panthers that are hopelessly out of contention.

I hesitate to compare him to Jimmy Johnson considering the success he had there, but I think they'd be a similar type of coach -- it'll be hard to tell him no when he's sitting in your living room trying to get him to sign, he'll motivate you to play your best, and he can coach you up enough that you'll improve. Of course, Gruden probably won't tolerate the shenanigans JJ put up with, either, so I can see why it'd be an attractive option for Miami. You could potentially see the discipline of the Shannon Era combined with the cache of the Johnson era.

If I were Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon, I would have added one more song to Thursday night's sing-along starring football coach Rich Rodriguez and Josh Groban.

After Rodriguez embarrassed himself and the program by playing "You Raise Me Up" at the annual football bust, I would have asked the DJ to play "Hit the Road Jack."

And don't you come back no more, no more, no more.

I have spoken to a couple of people who were at the bust and they said they were "in shock" when Rodriguez turned the banquet into an infomercial to keep his job as head football coach.

The annual banquet is to honor the seniors and outstanding players on the team, which 95 percent of the evening was all about. The seniors spoke passionately about their experiences in Ann Arbor. Quarterback Denard Robinson was named Most Outstanding player and the school did a good job of honoring a program that finished 7-5 overall and a disappointing 3-5 in the Big Ten.

But Rodriguez ruined it when he closed the evening with a speech that sounded like he was a man begging for his job. It was not the time or the place.

Link

Just... odd.

EDIT: I've been told by a UM fan that Terry Foster is supposedly a MSU homer, so take that as you will

I'm assuming everyone else saw ESPN's bottom line mentioning that there is zero chance Gruden goes to Miami now.  Michigan & Miami jobs should both be available this offseason... should be interesting.

Will Chris Petersen finally leave Boise State?  Will TCU be able to hang onto Gary Patterson?  Those have to be the two most logical candidates for those two high-profile openings.

Not a firing, but look for Urban Meyer to be stepping down at Florida. Denver opening maybe?

I don't think Meyers offense would ever work in the NFL

Urban Meyer is such a drama queen.  He'll be back.  It may take a year, but he'll be back.

Bob Stoops was reportedly hammering out the details of a contract to coach Florida according to some Gator blog, but that report has been shot down by Stoops himself.  It's the John Gruden to Miami rumor all over again.

I thought Florida was hiring Will Muschamp?
