Big Ten Title game

I was wondering how people think the Big Ten should handle it's new title game.  Specifically where they put it and whether or not they move it every year or keep it in the same place.  I for one hope they move it every year.  There are so many worthy cities with great facilities.  Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Chicago.  I heard Cleveland is even applying for it.  Green Bay has asked about it, which would be awesome.  I'm just not sure they have enough hotel space for something like that.  My assumption is Indianapolis will get the first one and if it's going to be a "same city every year" deal Indy is the most likely location.

I'd prefer it to be outdoors too, but that only really leaves Chicago and Green Bay as choices.  I didn't think realize Cleveland was much of a Big Ten city.  If you eliminate indoors, you eliminate Detroit, Indy, and Minneapolis, which I'd guess are three of the top 4 choices, with Chicago.

The four sites I've seen mentioned so far are Soldier Field, Ford Field, RCA dome (boo), and recently Lambeau Field.  I dislike the idea of the game being played indoors, also.  With the Gophers getting their new outdoor stadium, do any Big Ten teams even play indoors anymore?  Playing it indoors should be out of the question, in my opinion.

In fairness, I think the game should probably be rotated between sites.  I'd love to see the game come to Lambeau every 5 years or so, instead of being played in Indy every year.

Would college venues be open for the title game also? Or are they looking for pseudo-neutral locations (i.e. playing at Lambeau would still be some advantage for the Badgers)? I would think Michigan would be considered, as they have one of the largest capacity venues...

I think they would discourage the college stadiums because you don't want to take the chance of someone getting a home game.  I personally wouldn't want to see it.  I like the bigger cities in Big Ten states.  I wouldn't mind indoor games as long as they rotate the cities with some outdoor games as well.  I'd like to see a rotation something like this......Indy, Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Indy, Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Indy, Cleveland, Chicago, Green Bay....I think Indy and Chicago get the most games.  Detroit not far behind.  Minneapolis, Green Bay, Cleveland, all in contention as well, and maybe even St Louis.

I like going back and forth between Soldier Field and Lambeau. Really sell the history part. Big Ten football in the heart of the black and blue division.

The obvious choice to me is Soldier Field. As much as I love Lambeau Field, the game should be in Chicago imo.

I don't see why it couldn't rotate locations, especially considering the many great options the conference has in our geographic region.  It'd almost be a shame to be locked into just one of those places.

I'd hate to get into a situation like the Big 12 where it ends up in a particular location (Ford Field or Browns stadium or something like that) to appease one of the conference big-boys.

That was just recently though (and a moot point as the Big 12 will be only 10 soon), as the game was rotated between 'North' and 'South' locations (such as Arrowhead Stadium, Alamodome, Reliant Stadium, TWA Dome in St. Louis) and the attendance has bounced around depending on who has been in the game.  I think the Big Ten should put the game somewhere neutral and centrally located, and as much as I love Lambeau -- location hurts us here, so my vote is for Chicago over Indianapolis. 

If there was anyway for the game to be held at Lambeau, it would have to certainly be on a rotating schedule of stadiums throughout the Big Ten footprint.

Isn't the Big 10 likely to pick a LARGE stadium so they can sell as many tickets as possible for this game?  Soldier Field has the smallest capacity in the NFL, I believe (Wikipedia says so anyway at 61,500).  Lambeau can seat almost 73,000 (Wikipedia, again).

The other problem with Soldier Field is the condition of the field itself.  The players and media are constantly complaining about the field conditions.  Chicago has the advantage of location, but that's about it.

It's gonna be Indy the first year IMO and then they can examine the issue further. And isn't the roof in Indy able to be opened?
At any rate, if you're going to host in GB, then you run into almost the same issue as hosting a Super Bowl - not enough hotel rooms. Also not as easy to get to as other sites.
Granted that the B10 championship isn't on the same level, but logistics are logistics, and you can't house 70,000 plus visiting fans in GB. I want the game outdoors, but Soldier Field makes more sense, unfortunately, than Lambeau.

I don't understand the "not enough hotel rooms" argument for the Big 10 Championship. Setting aside the fact that it' snot nearly on the same level as you admit, is it really that bad to have people driving the 90 minutes from Milwaukee in the odd even that all GB-area hotels are booked?

The Big Ten Conference has chosen Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis as the site for its first football championship game in 2011.
I'm fine with this for one year.  A new, largish stadium at a neutral site in a fantastic location.  Bummed that it won't be an outdoor game, but sounds like there is a good chance it could be in the future.

That was the easy announcement. Now they actually have to get around to dividing the conference into divisions and dealing with that controversy.

Heard on the news the other day that Wisconsin and Iowa will not be in the same division.... Given the geographic similarities, I can't imagine it will be drawn on geographic lines. Maybe it will be a checkerboard selection (geographically) to keep both divisions equally strong.

Wisconsin
Michigan
Michigan St
Minnesota
Penn St.
Northwestern (okay maybe not but Chicago Skyscrapers could double as hills)


Flat State Division
Iowa
Nebraska
Indiana
Illinois
Purdue
Ohio St.
