Yeah, that was ugly.

I'm certainly not convinced that the AP won't vote OkSU as National Champions out of spite to split the thing in yet another attempt to kill the BCS.

The bowl season had already ended, in my mind.

Yeah, I hate how they stretch these things out so far. I completely forgot about it... Granted, I wouldn't have watched the whole thing anyway, but would have checked in from time to time.

Well, so much for my hopes for a split Championship.

Whoever the doofus in the AP is that picked LSU #1 after last night's game should have their voting rights taken away.

I actually agree with him.  LSU beat Alabama earlier.  They beat Oregon. They beat Arkansas. They beat West Virginia.  They beat Georgia.  In the final AP poll, that equates to beating the #1, #4, #5, #17, and #20 teams.  Alabama on the other hand have wins over the #2 and #5 teams.  That's all.  I think LSU gets screwed.  But such is life in college football.

I don't even pay attention to the votes. The voters can do what they want, but Nick Saban has the crystal football. That's all that matters to me.

How the hell did LSU get screwed?  They were in the championship game and lost!  An Oklahoma State argument, while still very wrong, is a better one than LSU.  The regular season is to determine who goes to the bowl games.  Once they've been selected, the regular season doesn't really matter.  LSU lost the championship game, that's their fault, they are not National Champions.

It was a horrible game between the two best teams from the best conference, and the correct national champion was crowned. 5 field goals and a garbage time touchdown. I mean, this from the conference that seems to think they are so much more faster and explosive than everybody else in college football. I'm biased because I live too close to Gainesville...but if I wanted to watch ANOTHER SEC Championship, I would have threw in a DVD of the one played in December. College football fans got hosed on a potentially great game with different opponents because the system still rewards the opinions of sportswriters to determine it's Champion.
It was not a horrible game.  It was rather good.  The only thing horrible was Jordan Jefferson, man he's awful, but the rest was good.  Sorry it wasn't a 49-42 shootout like the common fan might want, but that doesn't mean it was a bad game.  There were two great defenses that both played great in the game.  It was a two possession or less game for 90% of the game.  Best championship game ever?  Absolutely not.  Horrible?  Far from it. It was at the very least decent, an I'd call it good.

Alabama deserved the championship. It is nice to know that defense still wins championships, especially after all the ridiculous games in the other BCS bowls. Any argument to support LSU went out the window when the didn't score a single point in the championship game. A shutout! And they weren't even close to scoring.

Unfortunately, when you only have an 11 game schedule, it is very difficult to get the right teams in the right bowl games in the end. Although the season is over, I am now craving Alabama's defense vs. Oklahoma State's offense. Who would win that game? It's just part of the nature of football that sometimes the better team loses the football game. Wisconsin could easily have pulled two upsets and be sitting on back to back Rose Bowl championships right now.

It's impossible to measure how good Alabama's defense was last night because LSU's offense was so horrible. An awful game plan, awful play calling, and awful QB play. 3rd and 8? Throw a 4 yard pass. 3rd and 6? Run it for 2 yards. 1st and 10? Quick pass to the WR behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 2. I swear half their passes were behind the line of scrimmage, and not well drawn up screens or anything sophisticated, just quick passes to covered receivers. Then every time you turned around there was an unforced error like a dropped snap wasting a play or a false start sending them back 5 yards. On the few occassions (maybe 4 times?) where they actually threw the ball down field, the accuracy of their starting QB was Tebow-esque.

My wife is a huge LSU fan so I've been watching a lot of their games the last few years. They seem to have a 2006-Bears quality to them, where they're nothing without sparks from special teams, short fields from their defense, and a healthy dose of plain o' dumb luck. They never look like a powerhouse clicking on all cylinders.

I hated the Wisconsin D all year long for being piss poor, but I fully believe they would have held this LSU offense to single digits. (Though a special teams meltdown -- or two -- wouldn't have surprised me.)

You're right I phrased that wrong.  What I was getting that is that LSU clearly played and beat the better teams throughout the season than Alabama did, including winning at Alabama.  Alabama was lucky to even get into the game.  So they beat LSU and are declared national champions based on one game.  If this happened in an actual playoff I'd be fine with it because the winner is based on multiple games, not just one game like the current setup is.  I just hate this damn system where the participants of the championship game are based on people's perceptions and biases and computers.  The only reason Alabama is national champion is because they were selected over two other deserving teams to play a one game playoff against a team that already beat them.  Are they the best team?  I don't know, maybe.  But I can still make very compelling arguments that LSU is the best team.  I'd be much more willing to accept Alabama as the champion if they won a tournament that involved 8 or 12 of the best teams in the country because not only would they have to win 3 times against the best teams in the country (as opposed to once), but all the other teams would lose again.  Oklahoma St didn't lose again.

An Oklahoma State argument, while still very wrong, is a better one than LSU.  The regular season is to determine who goes to the bowl games.  Once they've been selected, the regular season doesn't really matter.  LSU lost the championship game, that's their fault, they are not National Champions.

How is Oklahoma St a  very wrong argument?  You do realize that the championship game participants are based on who coaches, media and computer programs THINK are the best teams?  Oklahoma St played in a tougher conference and had a tougher schedule than Alabama. Alabama beat all of two teams in the final top 25.  Oklahoma St doubled that.  I have no idea who would win between Alabama and Oklahoma St, but the entire point is that we shouldn't have to debate who would win.  It should be settled on the field like it is in every other sport anywhere.
