I'm hoping for a Big10 OT or a trade down.

The big Question on Ragland is if he can cover. A two down MLB in the first round is a poor choice for resources. People that think he can cover will take him in the 1st round. People that don't will wait until the second round. I read one report that said 10 years ago, he would be a top 10 pick. Now, he might fall out of the 1st round.

Personally, I think the Packers would be wise to invest in 'tweeners. Kind of the moneyball concept of utilizing talented people that others devalue. Take MLBs in the 3-4th round that are two-down backers. Then get those light LBs or heavy safeties to be the third round guy.

Or the other idea that I thought was interesting was the short OLB move to MLB. Someone like Joe Schobert might be an interesting choice. Too short for a traditional OLB (so he drops), but good size and decent speed for an MLB.

When you draft so low every year, you won't find the people that can start all three downs on day one. You have to develop them.

Edit: Obviously, we have done this briefly in the past year (Joe Thomas as the light MLB, Nate Palmer as the OLB moved to MLB, and Sean Richardson as the big safety) with some moderate success (Thomas had his games, Richardson played well prior to being hurt). But all of those guys were UDFAs. I think if you invest a bit higher (3-5th rounds), you might have a bit more success in the conversion.

I just saw what the Eagles gave up for the 2nd overall pick. WOW. Shades of Dallas Cowboys-Minnesota Vikings except that the Eagles split the bounty between Miami and Cleveland...

Who knows exactly, but given that the Pack used all 10 minutes, I'm guessing that they tried to trade back.

These reasons are why I don't sweat the "why didn't they trade down" decisions. Personally, I was hopeful, but obviously TT know a lot more about what is going on in reality.

Yes, CBS sports had Clark ranked 34th overall. But there were a LOT of higher ranked guys (Ragland was #15) still waiting too. And since CBS sports (and Mel Kiper and all other commentators) aren't working as a GM, I'll trust more in TT and his team and not sweat the details.

I also get the impression that trading back isn't as easy as it once was. I think more people are valuing the number of picks mantra over any one player. Except the Eagles. They still haven't learned.
