Let's have our draft day discussions here.

I'm hoping for a Big10 OT or a trade down.

We need a middle linebacker. Not sure who would be the best fit but it would be great if we struck gold in that department. Another thing that would be great to get is some offensive line depth. Last year it really took a toll when guys got hurt.

I don't see MLB or O-Line early, those will be later. O-Line in 3rd or 4th, MLB the same. I think they go D-Line in the 1st and maybe the 2nd, but definitely 1 of the 1st 2 picks. A DB wouldn't shock me early either, but I can't imagine they don't go D-Line in the 1st.

I keep seeing Reggie Ragland's name being thrown out there for the Packers. Is he not what we want or do some just don't think he will be there when we are picking?

The big Question on Ragland is if he can cover. A two down MLB in the first round is a poor choice for resources. People that think he can cover will take him in the 1st round. People that don't will wait until the second round. I read one report that said 10 years ago, he would be a top 10 pick. Now, he might fall out of the 1st round.

Personally, I think the Packers would be wise to invest in 'tweeners. Kind of the moneyball concept of utilizing talented people that others devalue. Take MLBs in the 3-4th round that are two-down backers. Then get those light LBs or heavy safeties to be the third round guy.

Or the other idea that I thought was interesting was the short OLB move to MLB. Someone like Joe Schobert might be an interesting choice. Too short for a traditional OLB (so he drops), but good size and decent speed for an MLB.

When you draft so low every year, you won't find the people that can start all three downs on day one. You have to develop them.

Edit: Obviously, we have done this briefly in the past year (Joe Thomas as the light MLB, Nate Palmer as the OLB moved to MLB, and Sean Richardson as the big safety) with some moderate success (Thomas had his games, Richardson played well prior to being hurt). But all of those guys were UDFAs. I think if you invest a bit higher (3-5th rounds), you might have a bit more success in the conversion.

I wouldn't mind falling back in this draft and grabbing another 2nd round + selections.

A guy I wouldn't mind in the 2nd is Hunter Henry (TE - Arkansas). I know we just nabbed a solid TE in free agency but we have been missing a tight end presence in our lineup for awhile now. I'd love to get some 2-TE sets going that still have some fire power. Would help in the red zone quite a bit.

Another guy that would be an interesting get would be Jaylon Smith. If he's there in the 3rd, why not take a shot on him to be good to go by 2017. I'm not sure that is in TT's repertoire to do such a thing but the guy was just so good. Would hate to see a team like the Patriots nab him and turn out to be a star player.

All I know is it'll be interesting to see who they take as there are always guys I have never really heard of selected by TT. I wonder if another WR will be on the way this season.

I just saw what the Eagles gave up for the 2nd overall pick. WOW. Shades of Dallas Cowboys-Minnesota Vikings except that the Eagles split the bounty between Miami and Cleveland...

Only two pick before us. Kind of hoping they take Myles Jack if he is there. Injury concerns, but that kind of talent at 27...that would be tough to pass up. ILB Reggie Ragland is also on the board too and I wouldn't mind him either.

With the number of high-quality D-line players still around, I think there's a decent chance GB slides into the early 2nd, and lets someone come up to get a QB.

Same as I was thinking. A stunning amount of guys tagged in the Mocks for the Packers are left...

Edit: Crud. Broncos traded up with Seattle to get their QB...

I'm hoping someone wants to come up for Hackenberg. I really like the trade Seattle made there to grab a 3rd just to move back 5 spots.

I am sure the Packers were called too for their pick. There must be a player they really want at this point.

Not surprised by the DT pick. Nothing like an athletic nose tackle.

This is the thing I hate about TT drafting in the early rounds; you could drop back 5-10 picks and get a comparable D-lineman to Kenny Clark.

It's not a bad pick, but the way the board set up...there was equity there which could have yielded additional ammo.

Who knows exactly, but given that the Pack used all 10 minutes, I'm guessing that they tried to trade back.

I would necessarily say they "tried', but I am sure they fielded calls like just about any other team does.

In this case, I agree with bjkrautk- I would have strongly preferred a trade down based on the talent still on the board. I guess the two things we don't know are 1)Whether or not they actually received a legit offer from someone looking to move up, or
2)Whether they had identified Clark as significantly ahead of the others in the DT position group, making him a clear choice over the others

I don't mind the pick. He adds to a defensive line that needs adding to but like other posters have said, we could've found relatively the same talent quite a few spots later in the draft. Now we don't know what exactly was out there but considering that Denver traded to the pick just before us, there might've been a deal to be had. Just stinks because it doesn't feel as though we found a "difference maker."

Sources Tell Us "What bothers me about Clark is that he was so much better against weaker competition than he was against better talent. I like him, but not like everyone is hyping him up." -- AFC Pac-12 scout

This is an alarming quote. Obviously one guys opinion but still alarming.

These reasons are why I don't sweat the "why didn't they trade down" decisions. Personally, I was hopeful, but obviously TT know a lot more about what is going on in reality.

Yes, CBS sports had Clark ranked 34th overall. But there were a LOT of higher ranked guys (Ragland was #15) still waiting too. And since CBS sports (and Mel Kiper and all other commentators) aren't working as a GM, I'll trust more in TT and his team and not sweat the details.

I also get the impression that trading back isn't as easy as it once was. I think more people are valuing the number of picks mantra over any one player. Except the Eagles. They still haven't learned.

I was concerned that Ted was going to take best player available instead of drafting for need, which he did not. There are DT's I would have taken over Clark, but I am not the one watching film on these players, so I am happy with the pick.

my predictions:

57 Le'Raven Clark, OT/G
88 BJ Goodson, LB
