I'm completely embarrassed of my posts with this account back when we used this forum host...

I used to be a Ted and Rodgers hater and Favre apologist....

My God, what was wrong with me???

At one point, I had said,
we should let Favre start until he wants to retire based on what he had done for the Packers.
Then he started in with the prima-donna routine and I had [*]enough. Something changedin the guy and it was [glow]too bad[/glow]...

I have added a Video button for you to the left on the lower button bar. The use is quite simple. Instead of hunting for codes or whatever, you just copy the URL from your address bar and paste it in between the Video bbCode. It works with most video hosts but you may find the odd one that doesn't.

I moved this topic to Issues in case someone actually asks questions in it.

The new "video" code, which is available via a button in the post editor, works with a long list of sites. Key sites that it doesn't support are mlb.com, milb.com, and nfl.com. Those will be relatively easy to add via separate BBCodes.

[hr][/hr]
is meant to be used without anything between the tags. It produces this result:

I've removed
[glow][/glow]
and
[shadow][/shadow]
because they were IE-only and because they're really not a fit for our communities anyway.

We have a nice spoiler code coming, but it broke under a few circumstances when I tested it. I found multiple options, so it's just a matter of finding the one that works and adjusting it to suit our needs.

Also, we'll have a number of BBCodes that won't be in the post editor but will be available by keying in manually. I'll create a full list once the dust settles.

dl, dt, and dd are designed to work together.

dl=definition list
dt=definition term
dd=definition description

The syntax goes like this:

[dl][dt]Yuni Betancourt[/dt][dd]A carefree sort of guy who impersonates a Major League shortstop.[/dd]
[dt]Tony LaRussa[/dt][dd]Baseball's version of Miss Manners.[/dd][/dl]

And the result is:

Yuni Betancourt
A carefree sort of guy who impersonates a Major League shortstop.

Tony LaRussa
Baseball's version of Miss Manners.

After I wrote about wishing we had the "glow", I figured it would be neat for 2 days then become the bane of the board with people being annoyed by it. [wink]

Not a big deal, but why is BF.net's [wink] different from LL.net's? I just noticed that BF has the animated version.

Good question. We had our preferred list of emots on a test board before going live, but they didn't transfer over to the "real" boards right away. We might have changed one board but not the other. [smile]

The intention was to use the same emots that we used at the other place.

EDIT: We might have simply missed "wink."

Here's a partial list of the BBCodes we have available. I'll post it in a separate topic when it's more complete.

Not everything is available as a post editor button. What goes in the editor is negotiable based on member and moderator input.

BBCodes are case-insensitive.

Abbreviation

Use to display the full text of an abbreviation or acronym in a tooltip.
  • Code:
    [abbr=full term]abbreviation[/abbr]
  • Result: MLB

Note: Hover over "MLB" to see the tooltip.

Align

Use to align text. Available values are left, center, and right.
  • Code:
    [align=center]Some text[/align]
  • Result:
    Some text

Bold text

Use to make text bold.
  • Code:
    [b]Some text[/b]
  • Result: Some text

Bulleted List

Code

Use to cause BBCodes not to render.
  • Code:
    [code][b][i]Some BBCode[/i][/b][/code]
  • Result:
    [b][i]Some BBCode[/i][/b]

Note: You can disable all BBCodes in a message by checking "Disable BBCode" directly below the post editor. The
    [code][/code]
BBCode is useful when you want to render some BBCodes, but not others.

Columns=

Use to put text into columns. Columns will not render in Internet Explorer.
  • Code:
    [columns=3,20]John Axford
    Zach Braddock
    Frankie De La Cruz
    Tim Dillard
    Marco Estrada
    Michael Fiers
    Yovani Gallardo
    Zack Greinke
    Brandon Kintzler
    Kameron Loe
    Santo Manzanillo
    Shaun Marcum
    Mike McClendon
    Chris Narveson
    Manny Parra
    Wily Peralta
    Amaury Rivas
    Francisco Rodriguez
    Cody Scarpetta
    José Veras
    Randy Wolf[/columns]
  • Result:
    John Axford
    Zach Braddock
    Frankie De La Cruz
    Tim Dillard
    Marco Estrada
    Michael Fiers
    Yovani Gallardo
    Zack Greinke
    Brandon Kintzler
    Kameron Loe
    Santo Manzanillo
    Shaun Marcum
    Mike McClendon
    Chris Narveson
    Manny Parra
    Wily Peralta
    Amaury Rivas
    Francisco Rodriguez
    Cody Scarpetta
    José Veras
    Randy Wolf

Note: The first value in the
    [columns=]
code is the number of columns you'd like. The second value is the minimum number of pixels between columns.

Definition List

  • Code:
    [dl][dt]Definition Term[/dt][dd]Definition Description[/dd]
    [dt]Definition Term[/dt][dd]Definition Description[/dd][/dl]
  • Result:
    Definition Term
    Definition Description

    Definition Term
    Definition Description

Note: Line breaks make a difference. You may want to preview before posting.

Italic text

Use to make text italic.
  • Code:
    [i]Some text[/i]
  • Result: Some text

Line-through

Use to strike (draw a line through) text.
  • Code:
    [s]Some text[/s]
  • Result: Some text

Ordered (numbered) List

Preformatted Text

Use to display text in a monospace font and preserve spacing.
  • Code: [pre]Year      BA     OBP     SLG    OPS    OPS+
    2007    .324    .370    .634  1.004    154
    2008    .285    .335    .553   .888    130
    2009    .320    .386    .551   .937    146
    2010    .304    .365    .501   .866    131
    2011    .332    .397    .597   .994    166
    Career  .312    .371    .563   .933    145[/pre]
  • Result:
Year BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+
    2007 .324 .370 .634 1.004 154
    2008 .285 .335 .553 .888 130
    2009 .320 .386 .551 .937 146
    2010 .304 .365 .501 .866 131
    2011 .332 .397 .597 .994 166
    Career .312 .371 .563 .933 145

Note: The best way to do this is to draft your layout in a text editor using a monospace font. Spaces work better than tabs.

Quote

Use to offset a block of text as a quotation.
  • Code:
[quote]A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.[/quote]
  • Result:
A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.

Quote=

Use to offset a block of text as a quotation and attribute it to its source.
  • Code:
[quote="Mark Twain"]A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.[/quote]
  • Result:
    Mark Twain said:
A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.

Note: The source after the "=" needs to be placed in quotation marks.

Sarcasm

Use to turn text blue and add a "Sarcasm" tooltip.
  • Code:
    [sarcasm]snarky comment[/sarcasm]
  • Result: snarky comment

Spoiler

Use to conceal text until a user clicks.
  • Code:
    [spoiler]Some text[/spoiler]
  • Result:
    [Show] Spoiler
    Some text

Spoiler=

Use to conceal text until a user clicks and offer customized information regarding its contents.
  • Code:
[spoiler=Brewers' Rotation]Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo, Shaun Marcum, Randy Wolf, Chris Narveson[/spoiler]
  • Result:
    [Show] Brewers' Rotation
Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo, Shaun Marcum, Randy Wolf, Chris Narveson

Subscript

Use to add an indicator below the line of type.
  • Code:
    H[sub]2[/sub]O
  • Result: H2O

Subscript

Use to add an indicator above the line of type.
  • Code:
    x[sup]3[/sup]
  • Result: x3

Teletype text

Use to turn text into a monospace font without preserving spacing.
  • Code:
    [tt]Some text[/tt]
  • Result: Some text

Tooltip

Use to add a tooltip to an image or some text.
  • Code:
    [tip=text of tooltip]your content (text or image)[/tip]
  • Result: your content (text or image)

Note: hover over "your content (text or image)" on the "Result" line above to see the tooltip.

Underlined text

Use to underline text.
  • Code:
    [u]Some text[/u]
  • Result: Some text

URL

Use to display a URL as a link.
  • Code:
    [url]http://www.brewerfan.net/[/url]
  • Result: http://www.brewerfan.net/

Note: Under normal circumstances, URLs in posts will become clickable automatically. You can disable this behavior in a message by checking "Do not automatically parse URLs" directly below the post editor. The
    [url][/url]
BBCode is useful when you want to make some URLs clickable, but not others.

URL=

Use to turn text into a clickable link.
  • Code:
    [url=http://www.brewerfan.net/]Brewerfan.net[/url]
  • Result: Brewerfan.net

Video

Use to insert video from sites that this BBCode supports.
  • Code:
    [video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ4RgGaQcCA[/video]
  • Result:

Note: Simply place the URL of the video's page between the
    [video][/video]
    tags.

Really appreciate all the work that's gone into the transition. This has been thus far an immense improvement on the yuku experience.

Question: In Yuku, I was able to highlight some text and hit CTRL-i to make italics (for quoting someone) in the Quick Reply window. That doesn't seem to work here, so I have to use the full editor every time I quote.

Is there a new shortcut that I can use instead?

That would be my only annoyance on the new board. Everything else is an improvement.

I don't know if we have anything implemented or if it's even possible, but you could try this as a stab in the dark:

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... #p12948375

I can tell you that no obvious combination works on a Mac. Most of the keyboard combinations are used up by the OS or the browser or to type text, etc.

I tried that and no dice. Surfed a bit and didn't find any real solutions either. It was odd because it worked on Yuku.

I'll probably just hit "quote" and delete to the desired section of text.

The access keys referred to there are for the full editor.

Right now, there are two solutions to your problem. The first would simply be to use the quote link under the post you are quoting and that would place the quote already in the reply editor. The second solution would be to type the bbCode.

I know neither are the same as a quick post and go but it is all there is right now. It is something I would use too. I will certainly be looking at it.

I've added a few BBCodes to the BBCode list above. Some already existed; others are new. Most significant are probably the
[spoiler][/spoiler]
and
[spoiler=][/spoiler]
BBCodes.
