Here's a mild surprise. Malcolm Jenkins, a defensive back many project as a top 20 pick in this draft, is not going to declare and will return to Ohio State for his final season. Jenkins can't really improve his draft stock much more. His decision could be similar to Roy William's decision to return to Texas for his senior season even though he was projected to be a top five pick. Williams said he just wasn't ready to leave the University yet.

Reportedly Darren McFadden has submitted all the paperwork necessary to declare so he is in the draft as far as the NFL is concerned. He just hasn't held a press conference yet announcing it. I'm assuming he's going to wait until the deadline day so he can build some buzz and decide how to address the embarrassing incident the other day where he got handcuffed by police.

Rich Rodriguez said he believes Mario Manningham has signed with an agent and is a certainty to enter the NFL draft. It certainly looks like Manningham is going pro. If Manningham declares that will put us at 48 so far with the record being 49 set in 2005. Tyson Jackson and Duke Robinson are still contemplating going out.

VT CB Victor "Macho" Harris has declared:

Joe Burnett, CB from UCF has apparently changed his mind, and will return.

Steve Slaton also announced he's not going to go into the draft this year and will return for one more season at West Virginia. I think Slaton saw all the RBs coming out this and realizes next year won't be as deep at RB as this year is.
Looks like Slaton changed his mind:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/n ... id=3194897

He was told he would probably be a 2nd round pick. I have to admit, even with some decent RB depth now, he would be an intriguing pick if we traded down to the middle of the 2nd round and we picked up another 3rd or 4th, too.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

With the RB depth this year he may be lucky to go in the second. Of course, if he would have stayed he would most likely have been the backup to Noel Devine. He would be an interesting choice for us but with the way Jackson's coming on and the way Grant is playing I doubt we will use a second round pick on Slaton.

edit: I see reports out of Columbus saying James Laurinaitis is going to stay for his senior season. If so, this would be a surprise. He's a lock for the top 10 and would be the heavy favorite to go to the Patriots at seven.

Maybe he knows this and he hates the Pats as much as the rest of us Image

Ha! Yeah, that is what I was thinking. But I for some reason thought he was a senior.

According to ESPN (so take it however you want) Felix Jones is going to announce tomorrow he is entering the NFL draft. ESPN has already been wrong on a few players so we'll see. For right now I'm putting Felix on the list.

Looks like it's pretty solid jwaltz. Jones had his press conference today and announced it. I think he'll be one of the interesting ones to watch as far as where his projection is now and where it is after the combine.

Beat you.

As of right now DeSean Jackson and Mario Manningham have yet to declare and it's looking quite likely Laurinaitis is returning to OSU like Malcolm Jenkins.

I can't remember if it was last year or the year before, but I remember Peavey and I commenting about how we don't remember so many talented underclassmen declaring for the draft.

McFadden, Jones and Mendenhall give the draft three really exciting RBs to look forward in this year's class. I'm not so sure the Packers even bother with a RB given the emergence of both Grant and Jackson, who could form a pretty exciting 1-2 punch similar to Levens and Bennett, but this would be a good year to grab one if they were so inclined.

EDIT: I just noticed both Jonathan Stewart and James Davis were also on the list, as I must have missed their announcements. Toss Stewart onto the list with the three guys I mentioned above, and Davis could be a pretty solid back in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

I'm so on the line with this. It's like the dessert menu at an expensive restaurant. You don't need it, you're competely full already, but imagine the possibilities if you sprung for it. It would be soooo good.

Rutgers S Courtney Greene has decided to return to Rutgers, I removed him from the list.

Same with Macho Harris, who has changed his mind after declaring all of about 24 hours ago.

But, VT RB Branden Ore is in, as is Ole Miss OT Michael Oher.

Actually your original post came right after mine. I still beat you. Ha. Image

Curtis Lofton the inside linebacker from Oklahoma declared. So far, the biggest names missing right now is DeSean Jackson and James Laurinitais. At the moment I'm expecting Laurinitais to return and follow AJ Hawk's route. From the way he plays I think Hawk had a big impact on him and he wants to do things the way AJ did. That means returning for his final season.

Speaking of Loftons I wonder how good at sports Kenny Lofton's kid is going to be? If he's half as athletic as his dad he's going to be a good player at whatever sport he chooses. If Kenny has a son that is. If he has a daughter I would expect nothing less than the WNBA.
