I am reasonably certain that I read at some point that the suspension pushed the first year of his deal back to 2007, so he'd be a free agent at the end of 2008.

That would make sense. I can see where the confusion is coming from. It will be interesting to see (hopefully) a healthy and in football shape Koren Robinson in mini-camps and training camps -- it'll be his first in Green Bay.

That makes a lot of sense. That should clear that up. I just remember Koren talking to the MJS about how he wants to resign in the offseason and doesn't want to leave this good situation right now. He is loving Green Bay right now and it's clear the atmosphere on the team is where he belongs. It's been very conducive to helping him stay clean. I think if he does have a good season next year as a returner/receiver he is still a good bet to accept a discount to stay and would be crushed tif he is traded. I couldn't see TT trading him. TT wouldn't want to do that to him. Even though TT does seem robotic at times he does seem to care for Koren.

Alright, time for mock draft #2. We all know TT will trade down at some point to gather more picks, and in this one I think he'll do it with their second 2nd round pick. Where the most pick trading occurs is end of 1st/beginning of 2nd, and end of day 1/beginning of day 2; given day one is only two rounds now, I think someone will want to move up to snatch someone that they feel others may have overlooked before people realize it overnight, and TT will be more than happy to oblige. In light of recent events (Williams, Favre), here goes:

#1) Antoinique Jenkins-Talib, CB, Somewhere - one of these dudes will be there, but I think only one of them will be - which one I don't know (draw straws) but whomever of the four is left here will be their pick
#2a) (from Cleveland) John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame - I think his average workout numbers at the combine will let him slide here; he's a better blocker than most of the TEs in the draft and more polished but had no one to throw him the ball last year at ND thus the dropoff in production.
#3a) (via trading down) Quintin Demps, S, UTEP - a true centerfielder who gives the Pack something they haven't had in a long time back there - great instincts, a team leader and playmaker with top intangibles and great hands. Haven't had a lot of good instincts back there lately, and Collins needs to be pushed. Putting up a 4.38 in the 40 at the combine answers any questions about speed. 17 interceptions in four years.
#3b) Kendall Langford, DE, Hampton - big enough and versatile enough to play DE or DT, could be the pass-rushing DT on passing downs to replace Williams, good run defender too
#4a) (via trading down) Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon - reminds you a little of Aaron Brooks, also a 4th rounder, and if he can match Brooks' career it will be a great pick
#4b) Gary Guyton, OLB, GA Tech - great football player who answered questions about his speed at the combine
#5a) Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson - the knock on him is that he lacks a killer instinct, but at LT you don't need a killer instinct you just need to get in the way long enough so your QB doesn't get creamed, and he can do that. Held Mario Williams sackless in college.
#5c) (compensatory for Green) Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose St. - If TT has a position of need he makes multiple picks there to help ensure someone pans out; chances are they saw him scouting Jones last year and 13 INTs in two years shows he can make plays
#7a) Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio St - Tauscher was a 7th, perhaps his replacement can be too; could move inside and play G
#7c) (compensatory for Martin) Joe Fields, S, Syracuse - 163 tackles and 8 INTs in 2 years, someone to push Bigby

I really like that draft LouisEly. I especially like the idea of adding Carlson with a late-2nd round pick, as I think he'll be a steal in that spot. Lee is becoming a better blocker and can already stretch the field, so adding a guy like Carlson would almost be like adding a younger, more mobile Bubba Franks with better hands. I like that possibility.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

Dennis Dixon

I liked this guy a lot in college. Has he had any workouts testing his arm strength yet? What have scouts said?

Dixon hasn't had any workouts yet. His arm strength is more than adequate. He doesn't have a cannon but it's strong enough.

I don't doubt he doesn't have the arm strength to be adequate, but he's the type of player that if he has a good workout and shows his arm is clearly more than adequate could shoot up the draft into the 3rd round or the 2nd round -- the 2nd would be a bit of a reach.

Final mock draft. I will be very busy the next week and I will be gone for two weeks after that through the draft. My prediction is that Trader Ted will trade down with their second 2nd round pick to the early/mid 3rd and pick up an additional 4th. When it is all said and done I think this is what they will end up with:

1) CB - looking more and more like it will be Cason
2a) (from Browns) John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame - good all-around skills, polished, good blocker
3a) (via trading down in 2nd) Duane Brown, OT, Virginia Tech- athletic, good fit for ZBS, could play guard also
3b) (own pick) Josh Johnson, QB, San Diego - need to develop a backup, career 113 TD to 15 INT ratio is incredible at any level
4a) (acquired via trading down in 2nd) Craig Steltz, S, LSU or Quintin Demps, S, UTEP - depends on where they see Rouse's future - if they see Rouse as a free safety then Steltz fills the need of SS, if they see Rouse as a SS (I think he would be great over the TE) then Demps fills the need of free safety
4b) (own pick) Zack Bowman, CB, Nebraska - TT's M.O. is if he has a position of need he uses multiple picks at that position to improve the chances that he gets at least one good player; Bowman has good size and man-to-man skills and is physical
4c) (comp pick for Green) Rudolph Hardie, DE, Howard - good pass rusher with decent size who combined for 45.5 TFL and 21.5 sacks his last two seasons
5) Shawn Murphy, OG, Utah St - good mobility and range but also strong enough to get a push in the run game
7) Adam Bishop, TE, Nevada - good blocking TE, good special teamer, can long snap

Undrafted Free Agents:
David Hale, OT, Weber St - more depth at OL
Matt Castelo, OLB, San Jose St - special teams maven, combined for 306 tackles his last two seasons
Joe Fields, S, Syracuse - combined for 163 tackles and 8 INT his last two seasons

The more I see it, the more I like the idea of getting Carlson in the 2nd. The way Lee is able to stretch the field, Carlson would be a perfect compliment. Plus he would be more reliable and much cheaper than Bubba. I would be extremely happy with that pick, and if they don't trade down, they could probably still get him with the later 2nd rounder.

I also really like Josh Johnson. I like the idea of having a backup with a lot of speed. Even if he has to get thrown in at any point, he could win some games just with his legs.

Bowman in the 4th would make me giddy. LouisEly, if you were my GM, I would be very excited about my team.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

Well, Rudolph Hardie was signed by GB to the practice squad. 6'2", 270, and as mentioned before, combined for 45.5 TFL and 21.5 sacks his last two seasons. I think if they can have patience and develop him he can potentially be a steal.

I like the Hardie signing too. He's got a lot of potential. Scouts say he reminds them of Osi Umenyiora. Like you said, give him and time and we could have something here. He could develop into a solid contributor or more.

LouisEly,

You were pretty high on this guy before the draft and seem to know quite a bit about him. Do you know what caused him to go undrafted?

Going to a small school (Howard) that was not scouted much and played in a small conference not scouted much.

Judging by the signing, it looks like he was on the Packers radar but after picking Thompson in the 4th they decided no more DEs.

On a related note, the one thing I hoped that would not come back to bite them in the butt was passing on Philip Merling at the end of the 1st. While Jordy Nelson was a solid pick and will be a solid pro, Merling is big enough where he could have filled in Jenkins role quite nicely (outside on run downs, inside on passing downs).

Hardie was release from the practice squad about 2 weeks after he was signed. He is now with the Lions practice squad.
