54. Detroit: Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia- Lions try to bolster their secondary to try and stop the Packers.

55. Atlanta: - Bobby Massie, OT, Ole Miss- Atlanta needs help on the line.

56. Pittsburgh: Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California- Might be a reach, but Pitt also needs help on the line. Would have preferred a guard, but beggars cant be choosers.

PeaveyFury, or anyone else who wants to, please make my group of second-round picks. I really don't have time this week; work & personal life are both very busy. Sorry to bail.

Denver - Derek Wolfe, DT, Cincinnati

Broncos badly need help in the middle on defense, especially with some undersized ends. Wolfe is a bit undersized for DT at the moment, but he's an incredible athlete. He could add 20 lbs and still be disruptive off the snap. He could also be used as an end in running situations where Denver's other small DEs just won't cut it.

Houston - Tank Carder, LB, TCU

I'm thinking they go offensive line or find an ILB to fill in for the departed Demeco Ryans. Unfortunately, the run on tackles before this pick narrows the choices for them. Carder has a lot of versatility in the kind of defense he can play in.

Green Bay - Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

If we get to this point and both Ronnell Lewis and Harrison Smith are available, I will be very happy with either one. Lewis could also go to Houston, but they need more help inside than outside. Both Lewis and Smith would be great value in positions of need...Ted could flip a coin.

Ouch. Morris Claiborne scores a 4 on the Wonderlic.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2012-04-03/nfl-draft-2012-morris-claiborne-wonderlic-4-low-score-vikings-buccaneers?eadid=EL/SICOM&sct=hp_t2_a14

Seems like Wonderlics come up every year in draft discussion. There's always a counterexample of "This one guy scored badly and still did well, therefore it's a useless tool!" It's generally a good measure of ability to conceptualize new information quickly through auditory or visual methods. A purely kinesthetic learner would have more trouble than most. Even highly kinesthetic learners can gain skills through repetition and even pick up pseudo-"intuition" about things based on a multitude of past experiences, so this may be a sign that he'll have to do a lot more repetitions than most guys to pick up coverage schemes, and will be more easily fooled than most.

A 4 is really, really bad, though. To the point that you start to question whether he took it seriously or not. Since it's timed, he could've just not tried and ended up with that score.

The Wonderlic is a pathetic attempt to understand the intelligence of a person. A dyslexic person could get very flustered very quickly on a test like that, and a person with average intelligence could easily end up with a 4. You get 12 minutes to answer 50 questions...a person that can't visualize words on a page in the way that the test is set up would have a very hard time with something like that. It was noted early last preseason that Alex Green is dyslexic, and a quick Google search says he got a 13 on the Wonderlic (still very low). For Claiborne, you add in the pressure of a test that might be the difference between top 5 and top 10, and it's not hard to believe that he is not, in fact, the box of rocks as he is being portrayed in the media right now.

On the bright side, if this makes him drop down to 28, then I would like to thank the Wonderlic for our shiny new cornerback [smile]

Thanks JT. Much appreciated, & they look like solid picks.

Good point. A person with any learning disability would have a difficult time - particularly someone with dyslexia.

The Wonderlic is a pathetic attempt to understand the intelligence of a person.

That could be said about any test. It really isn't an intelligence test either. Its a "mental reaction" test. To see how quickly you can respond to questions and answers. Of course, its highly reliant on your ability to read (which isn't necessarily a football skill), thus its main failing.

Honestly, I've thought it does a decent job of identifying "mental agility" in football players. Any really bad score needs to be evaluated further (like in Green's case with dyslexia), but its going to do a decent job on 95% of the people.

Plus, how important the wonderlic test is, also very position dependent. Your DL (then CBs) are probably the positions of least concern for the wonderlic. If you QB scores a "4", he would drop like a rock.

Even tests like 40yd dash times, bench presses, high jump must be taken with a grain of salt. Most of the time, its only the outliers that you are concerned about.

Green Bay - Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

I thought you would be all over Harris, having missed on Barron in the first. [wink] I haven't heard of Lewis (I normally don't dig that deep into prospects), but heard a lot of good things about Harris.

Its driving me nuts that the draft is still 2.5 weeks away and it seems that most of the interesting draft news has dried up.
