If you define "need" as two deep at every starting position, we lots of places with "needs".

I don't disagree with your needs rankings (I might bump up the need for an extra safety, given the injury history of the current 3, and I'm confident with Green as a short-term NT backup to Raji), but I don't consider all backups to be equal needs.  Since defensive linemen typically work on a rotation, your backups on the DL will play a handful of snaps in every game (unless they're inactive...cough, cough...Harrell...cough).  Your backup OL only comes into the game if the starter is injured or struggling.

Backup DL, RB, TE, WR, and DBs play more snaps than backups at other positions.  (With the Packers of the last few years, you could also add LB to that list....but that may have been more based on the talent at ILB than an organizational philosophy.)

the 32nd pick is tough to predict because there will be a player that is expected to go much higher there at 32. My guess is that Ted takes him. Maybe Jimmy Smith or Mark Ingram.

It's hard enough to even accurate predict the top ten, yet alone the entire first round before our pick. Teams will just make crazy picks (think Ted Ginn Jr in the top ten to Miami) that we really have no idea who will even be there. It's just too hard. That being said, I'm hoping it's Akeem Aiers. He just seems to have it for me, even though he's apparently lazy and unmotivated.

i think the pick is going to be Ingram. Don't see the teams picking at the bottom having a RB need and I think he will be the best player there at 32.

Lots of speculation that New England will take him, but if he gets past them, he could definitely be there at 32.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

I agree, i still would like the packers to take a 3-4 DL or an OT and I think there should be a good one there at 32.

I would be very happy with Cobb if they go that way. The tough thing about mocking a WR to the Packers is that Ted has made some great WR picks that not one of us saw coming.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

I'm at the point that I'm really hoping for Ingram.... might as well hope for the best at a position rather than the 3rd/4th best at some of the others. Heyward would be a nice pick, along with my homer hopes for Carimi.

Really tough to be upset with where the pick goes position-wise. There's a good argument to be made for DL, LB, OT, WR, RB, etc.

If Carimi is on the boad at #28 I would love it if the Packers swapped with New England to snatch him up one pick before the Bears.

i think they can trade down and get cobb. I think this could be a year they trade up. They have alot of good players on IR that need spots as well as the team that won a super bowl. If there is a good replacement of Jenkens or another player Ted likes, I could see him trading away his 2 and or 3 to get him. You can't count of FA this year so this draft is already going to be different.

I agree with you in principle, but not in the result.  With the current labor situation and the number of teams in the market for a franchise QB, I think there will be a real opportunity to slide back and pick up ammunition for future drafts.  Particularly with New England leading off the second day; you know they're going to spend most of the day shopping that pick; if someone falls in love with a player, their best chance to guaranty getting them is to jump in front of the Patriots.  Mike Mayock over at the NFL network has usually been pretty good at predicting TTs moves, and he's calling for a trade down.  I tend to agree.

They could slide back and get Cobb, Titus Young, a Dontay Moch, or have a late-first projection player fall to them like a Brooks Reed, Danny Watkins, or a Cameron Hayward.
(Or if they fall back to the middle of the 2nd, there's always Casey Matthews.)

i will predict that the packers move up to 15-18 and take Muhammad Wilkerson.

bjkrautk, i know TT treats picks like gold, but I am not sure if they have 7 or 8 open spots on the 53 man roster. They could get an impact player to help them in 2011 by moving up. I'll stick with my prediction.

at 32 I'll predict Cameron Hayward.

I think they could fall back into the middle of the 5th and still get Matthews.

As for tomorrow, I see either a trade down or a pick of someone we can't believe is falling.

Yeah, Matthews is a late 3rd/4th rounder tops, and that's partially because of name recognition. I'm sure he could be a good player, but he's not quite as athletically gifted as Clay.

Will you have this left guard to be the 224th pick?

I've been hearing talk that because of the (now increased) uncertainty about whether there will even BE a draft in the future, trading future picks this weekend will be minimized.

Interesting to read that the Packers hold Bowers and Sherrod in high regard, in addition to Ingram.

I really think the packers move up at one point or another in the draft. I'm pushing for an OLB with our first pick or an impact DE. I think we can get a RB late and do well with Grant and Starks.

But hey, any pick we take will get me excited!

If the Packers get the urge to move up, I'd hope it was for Bowers. A top 5 talent if healthy, and exactly the type of risky-yet high-potential reward move that a team without a glaring need like the Packers can afford to take.
