I read the Schroeder comparison too. Except Jannis is taller, faster and more experienced at WR. So exactly the same, except where they are different... yes, excellent comparison.

Here is my take:
S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: I cringe at all the jokes that have been or will be made about his name. But I think he was a good choice. I think I'd still have preferred we trade down, but perhaps the offers weren't good. I think he complements Burnett well. My guess is that we will have more of an SS (HHCD) and FS (MB) alignment instead of the recent alignment of two generic safeties.
WR Davante Adams: Typical TT WR pick. Has his detractors, but probably (like other 2nd round WRs) will fit the Packer's needs very well.
DE Khyri Thornton : I have some difficulty with this pick. I do believe that most boards are tailored to 4-3 DLmen but Thornton isn't a slam dunk 3-4 DL guy either. Seems like the typical short TT DL picks (that are a mixed bag of success). So, it doesn't bother me that sports journalists that can't get GM jobs ranked him down a few levels. But it does bother me that it seems that we made a typical TT pick that has been a weakness in the past (short DL). And he made it in an area of the draft where we could have picked up some useful guys in an area of weakness.
TE Richard Rodgers : Reminds me when TT drafted Finely. Not Rodgers compared to Finely physically, but the reaction to the draft pick itself. Intriguing physical specimen that can develop behind Quarles and Bostick. I'm intrigued by the guy.
OLB Carl Bradford : I like him if they move him inside to MLB. I think we have a major jam at OLB right now. Certainly will be a development project inside. But height/weight/speed fit really nicely at MLB, where is short at OLB. Nice value pick, non-the-less.
C Corey Linsley : I kept looking for the knock on this guy, but couldn't find it. I keep hearing too small, but he was listed at 6-3, 305lbs. Seemed big enough and certainly strong enough. Fast for a C and should be able to pull in the run game. Reminds me a LOT of Wells with an extra inch or so (strong for weight, high intellegence, lightly regarded). Not much different from EDS either. I wonder if TT does a "moneyball-like" evaluation with smaller, smart centers; No one else likes them, but they fit in our system?
WR Jared Abbrederis : Like everyone else, a great value pick here. I was hoping to get him in the 4th round and ecstatic in the 5th. I think the concussions mixed with his size explain why he dropped, but I still think a WR with good speed and great routes is a wonderful mix with AROD at QB. He reminds me of DD or Jennings in that regard.
CB Demetri Goodson: Interesting pick. Raw CB with good physical attributes. At worst, he should be able to fill ST roles while he works on his CB coverage skills. Nice way to mine draft gems.
WR Jeff Janis: In a normal draft, we would be drooling over a physical WR specimen like this in the 7th round. But he is our 3rd WR, so the law of diminishing returns kicks in (the more candy you eat at one time the less you like it). Good chance that if they look more to pick a "need", he falls to UDFA and we draft another UDFA (that we might have signed). So, it doesn't bother me that its the 3rd WR of the draft. Brett Favre is probably swearing somewhere about how Rodgers always gets offensive weapons in the draft...

Overall: I've read that this draft is very low on high ceiling players (starters and Pro-Bowlers), but again, I think people are calibrating their thinking to a "generic team" and not looking at it with Packer systems in mind. I think we drafted a lot of guys that fit our team very well; specifically Adams, Rodgers, and Linsley.
I think these guys have legitimate ceilings:
Pro-Bowl (not perennial, but a couple times): Clinton-Dix, Adams, Rodgers
Starters: Everyone above the 6th round.

Ryan Groy signed as a UDFA with the Bears. Good opportunity for Groy, but wished the Packers would have signed him instead. Will be much easier for him to make the Bears roster, but I thought Groy had the potential to play LT as he was more of a finesse player than power player. He was UW's best LT last year but played LG so that they would get their best five OL on the field due to lack of depth.

Hemer signed with the Steelers. Another good fit for their system.

I trust TT so much when it comes to his early round WR selections that I hadn't looked to deeply at Davante Adams until today. And holy cow, do I like what I see.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvGeiqmqWE0

Apart from the scounting reports saying he's a very good route runner (TT's favorite WR trait), he has amazing body control to go get the ball and agility and awareness to rack up some solid YAC. Everyone likes the Abbrederis story, but I think Adams has the upside I thought this draft class was lacking at first. People have been comparing Adams to James Jones - I think Adams is more like a bigger Greg Jennings and I'm drooling after watching a few videos. Legitimate #1 WR talent.

Also, what's up with all our WR's jersey numbers? Adams (17), Cobb (18), Boykin (11), White (19), Harper (13), Dorsey (6), Gillett (1). We only have three WR with numbers in the 80's, Nelson, Abbrederis, and Janis. Seems weird, WR numbers in the teens used to seem very novel, now it seems more common than the 80's, which are taken up by all our TEs.

Not sure where else to put this, but the Packers are bringing in the extremely talented (yet extremely troubled) TE Coly Lyerla for a workout this weekend. This guy was undraftable (and apparently unsignable thus far) given his drug problems and inclination to say dumb things on twitter, but he was in the discussion for the most talented TE in this year's draft if not for his off-field issues.

I would stay far, far away from that guy.

Remember how Packers fans thought Finley and Barnett were awful when they spoke out on Twitter a few years ago? Not in the same solar system as this Lyerla dude.

Yeah, but I have a feeling once they get him in the facilities for a workout they aren't going to want to let him leave. One to watch, that's for sure.

Latest from Rob Demovsky is that they're leaning towards signing him, but haven't yet made up their minds. Should find out Sunday or Monday.

Honestly, I'm a little torn. Certainly, not "Packer people". But he is also a young kid. Seems like GB is a good spot for kids to get their head on straight. Not so many places to get into trouble. Plus, I'm sure they are going to put a babysitter on him. And if he doesn't toe the line this offseason you cut him.

Low risk, but a pretty high reward. I love getting something for nothing. [wink]

He has near-maximum potential for a UDFA. If it wasn't for the off-the-field stuff, it would not have been a stretch for him to be the second TE off the board after Ebron.

This is the most excited I've been for a UDFA at least since we signed Sam Shields, and maybe longer.

It raises the question about which TE's will make the cut though. We are pretty crowded at the position now. I'd rank them roughly like this:

1. Quarless
2. Bostick
3. Rodgers
4. Lyerla
5. Taylor
6. Stoneburner

That's if Lyerla doesn't do something to blow his chance.

Taylor might be on the outside looking in right now despite his ST prowess, unless we keep him over Kuhn and play Rodgers or Lyerla as an H-back. Even then, we may want to keep a sixth WR in Janis.

I think Taylor had his main chance to play on offense last year and didn't perform. He really isn't that great of a ST player either.
