A friend brought up the idea that Rogers is the 2nd best QB in the NFC North behind Kitna. This led me to ask the question, "Who would you rather have at the QB spot for one season, Kitna or Rogers?"

I have to go with Rogers. He can create more than Kitna with his legs and arm, is younger (and we know this is a young man's game), and is very intelligent (maybe not smarter than Kitna, I'm not sure how they compare in this arena, but at worst it's a push). Now does Kitna's veteran experience count for enough to trump all of that? I don't think so, that's why I'm going with Rogers. He is IMO the best QB in the NFC North (which obviously isn't say too much).

Thoughts?

I'd go with Rodgers every time. Kitna's intelligent but he throws a lot of interceptions and isn't nearly as athletic or mobile. I too believe Rodgers is the best QB in the NFC North.

If you believe that the QB is the best player on the field, or at least should be, I think it says a lot about the NFC North when people are discussing Kitna as possibly the division's best QB. Meaning, the division truly is up for grabs, as Kitna really is not much more than a career backup. And since the Bears, Lions and Vikings don't seem to be doing much to improve their current QB situation (we'll see if they are come draft day, but even then the improvement probably wouldn't be noticed this coming year), I am that much more confident in the Packers and the situation they have moving forward with the relatively unproven Aaron Rodgers.

So yes, give me Rodgers, but in this context that isn't really a huge vote of confidence for him.

I agree, but I think it's pretty close. The sample size on Rodgers is so small it's hard for me to say he's the best in the NFC North. I don't think Kitna is as bad as he's made out to be. Kitna has the skills, but he throws killer interceptions and I don't know if he's really ever been a great leader. We'll see how Calvin Johnson goes from year 1 to year 2 since this should hopefully help Kitna out a lot.

I know some people will laugh at this, but Travaris Jackson deserves some consideration as well. I do not think I'd take him over Rodgers or Kitna in 2008 (I'd take Kitna), but in 2009 or 10 he'll be better than Kitna and may equal Rodgers.

In 4 of his last 6 games last year Jackson played very well and didn't have a lot of recieving weapons around him. Remember, this is a guy who played at a DII school in college and was thrown into a starting role way too early and is going into just his 3rd season. Most scouts thought of him as a project coming into the NFL and knew he wasn't ready for a starting role this early. Athletically he's much better than Rodgers and has a stronger arm. If he has the work ethic and study habits necessary to play QB in the NFL he could really blossum, especially when he has a guy like AP to take the pressure off him and open up the passing game.

Ick --- I think I'd just punt on 1st down and hope to score on turnovers.

I'd take Kitna

I don't think Jackson is a bust or a waste of space. The kid has talent and like you mentioned is making a big step up. The Vikings still have faith in him and that means they can't judge talent or he has some skills. I think his WRs were a joke this year and hopefully with Berrian it gets better. He does have AP in the backfield and if that doesn't help a ton I don't know what else will.

I guess my question would be why is he much better than Rodgers athletically? And is his arm that much stronger? I know I doubted Rodgers arm a bit in college, but scouts rave about it from his draft workouts. I still don't kow how Rodgers will perform on the NFL deep pass, but besides that I think Rodgers arm isn't a question.

I dont know who this guy from Rotoworld is, but here is a snip about Jackson's athleticism and arm strength

http://blogs.rotoworld.com/Fantasy_Football/minnesota_vikings/tarvaris_jackson/

But there was no way to watch Jackson and think he was even close to being ready to be an NFL starting quarterback. He threw three ridiculous interceptions in the five quarters I watched. His athleticism and arm strength are amazing, but he pulled down the ball to run too quickly after his first read was covered. His stats weren't terrible, but most of his yards came on dump offs with his team trailing big. He was in over his head. Keep in mind my tapes didn't include his 50-yard, 0 point effort in Lambeau.

He may be more athletic than Rodgers, but I just don't know if his arm strength is better than Rodgers. We'll get a better idea this year since it looks like Jackson will have more weapons and obviously with Rodgers playing.

id go with Kitna as the best qb in the division. He has been around the longest, and has put up good numbers before. If he was given more than 2 secs to throw the ball, he probably would of had a really good year. He was sacked last year 51 times and 63 the year before. I don't like the guy, but if it was my choice, Id have him over Rodgers

For the Packers in 2008, I take Rodgers. For a random team, needing a new QB, I'd probably take Kitna for 2008, because of his experience. Rodgers knowledge of the Packers system makes him an easy choice for the Pakcers.

Redact this immediately! Tarvaris Jackson succeeds in spite of himself.

Jackson is a terrible QB. Granted a lot of that has to do with being rushed into starting, poor pass protection, practically zero downfield weapons, and the simplest offensive game plan this side of Joe Gibbs, but even with a simple game plan and defenses only sending 3 d-backs to cover multiple receivers he still wasn't able to play even average football. He has to take several massive steps forward to not be the worst player on that offense.
